HOW TO OBTAIN SALVATION IN GOD

What is Sin?

Sin is described in the Holy Bible as transgression of the law of God and rebellion against God. The Divine Law consists of the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are embodied in Holy Love – to love God above all else – and to love your neighbor as yourself.

How do I reconcile with God?

First, you need to accept that you are a sinner in need of God’s Mercy. This means that you have broken God’s Divine Law by not being fully loving and charitable towards God and neighbor in every present moment of your life.

Secondly, you need to ask for God’s forgiveness for all sins committed in life. See the Ten Commandments as a reference to guide you in understanding the ways that you may have offended God and hurt your neighbor by sin. You would ask for forgiveness by either seeking the Sacrament of Baptism or Confession with a priest in Holy Mother Church (Catholic or Orthodox) or by confessing directly to God your sins and asking for His pardon for what you have done and failed to do in life.

Jesus Christ is the divine mediator and divine advocate between God and mankind. He lived 2,000 years ago in ancient Israel. Jesus is both the Son of God and God. He suffered a horrible death by Crucifixion, because He preached the Gospel (“Good News”) that God the Father would forgive sins of believers in Him and His new Way of Teachings based on Sacred Scriptures. By His life, Jesus perfectly fulfilled the Divine Law (Ten Commandments). By His suffering and death, Jesus reopened the Gates of Heaven to believers in Christianity, because He showed that He had conquered over all the sins of mankind and eternal death by His Resurrection from the grave. Jesus suffered the penalty of the wages of all the sins of mankind, so that any believer and follower in Him would not have to suffer hell upon dying. Therefore, Jesus is the perfect intercessor for all the needs of believers in Him. It is only by calling upon His Holy Name and His Most Precious Blood that people may have salvation in God and enter Heaven.

OUTLINE: UNDERSTANDING SALVATION IN GOD

I. Apart from Jesus Christ we are helpless and sinful.

A. We are all sinners due to not obeying perfectly the law of God.
B. We are in spiritual bondage to the devil who controls this fallen world.
C. We are alienated from God.
D. Knowledge of sin comes by the law of God.
E. The law of God is the Ten Commandments found in the Holy Bible.
F. God, in His justice, punishes sinners.
G. We cannot save ourselves in any way.

II. Jesus Christ saves us by grace and through faith.

A. Jesus who is the Son of God and God, became a Man to save mankind from sin.
B. Jesus suffered and died for sinners.
C. By His suffering and death, Jesus paid the full penalty for each sinner so he may gain Heaven and not hell for eternity.
D. The Resurrection of Jesus shows that God has power over death and to forgive us from sin.
E. Salvation in God is a choice for each person to decide in his life.
F. Salvation is made possible by accepting Jesus and obeying the law of God according to Jesus.
G. This is the Gospel (“Good News”) of Jesus Christ.

III. God calls sinners like you and me to follow the Gospel.

IV. We are saved to joyfully obey and serve God in this earthly life and to gain Heaven in the afterlife.

V. Belonging to the Catholic Church founded by Jesus Christ is the ordinary means for people seeking salvation in God and growing closer in friendship with God by following its teachings.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

From Holy Bible (Old Testament)
Book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 5
Order established by Saint Augustine of Hippo

1. I am the LORD your God. You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.
4. Honor your father and your mother.
5. You shall not kill.
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

THE TWO GREATEST COMMANDMENTS

From Holy Bible
Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 22, Verses 35-40

The Two Greatest Commandments that contain the whole Divine Law of God are:

1. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength;
2. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

HOLY INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT THE DIVINE LAW

From Holy Bible
Book of Leviticus, Chapter 5, Verse 17
Biblical Principle: Ignorance of the Law is No Excuse

“If any one sins, doing any of the things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, though he does not know it, yet he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity.”

Book of Ecclesiasticus (Sirach), Chapter 15, Verse 18 (17)

“Before man is life and death, good and evil; that which he shall choose shall be given him.”

Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 12, Verse 36

“But I tell you, that of every idle word men speak, they shall give account on the day of judgment.”

Book of Romans, Chapter 6, Verse 23

“For the wages of sin is death; but the grace of God, life everlasting in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Epistle of Saint James, Chapter 2, Verses 8-10, 17, 24, 26

8 If you really fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well. 9 But if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.

17 So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.
24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so faith apart from works is dead.

Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 17, Verse 20

“…For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from hence to yonder place,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

1st Corinthians, Chapter 13, Verse 2

“…if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”

Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 5, Verse 48

“Be ye therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect.”

HOLY LOVE MINISTRIES
(June 28, 1999)

HOLY LOVE IS: The Two Great Commandments of Love, the Fulfillment of the Gospel Message, and the Embodiment of the Ten Commandments.

“I am your Jesus, born Incarnate. I have come to speak to you about the virtue of love. Holy Love is, as you know, the two great commandments: love God above all else and your neighbor as yourself. It is the embrace of all Ten Commandments. Holy Love is the Immaculate Heart of My Mother. It is the Divine Will of God.”

“Holy Love can be likened to the sun, which spills its rays over the earth enlightening the shadows of darkness. It is like the keys to the kingdom I entrusted to My apostle Peter. It is the door to My Sacred Heart and union with Divine Love. Holy Love is the harmony between man, nature, and the Creator. It is the interpretation of the law and the means of all sanctification.”

“The will of man must choose Holy Love. It is not open to debate, and stands undaunted in the face of discernment. Holy Love cannot be judged, for it is the judge. Holy Love is offered in every present moment and follows the soul into eternity.”

(July 5, 2021)

GOD THE FATHER: “Adherence to My Commandments must arise from a heart of love, just as I have called you and taught you in love. No longer obey simply out of duty, but with a heart filled with love that wishes to please Me. I smile upon such a soul and offer him every grace towards a deeper spiritual journey. Love of Me and My Commandments is rewarded with many favors. I cannot resist a loving heart.”

(January 27, 2016)

“I am your Jesus, born Incarnate. I come today to reiterate the Truth that each soul is judged by the measure of Holy Love in his heart at the moment of his death. I do not look at labels, such as Catholic or Protestant. I do not take into account wealth, popularity or influence in the world. I look only at the heart.”

“This should be remembered as moment to moment decisions are being made. Much evil is performed in the name of good. You need only to look at government policies, laws which protect sin in the name of personal rights, leadership in Church circles which does not call out sin as sin, mainstream media which pumps compromised Truth into the public’s conscience and lies which support the loss of freedoms which are God-given. Each of these abuses of authority taps into Holy Love in the heart and weakens or destroys it.”

“Perhaps you think you are doing what is right by obeying the authority over you, even though what you are doing in obedience opposes Holy Love. Do not be so impressed with someone’s credentials that you compromise the Holy Love in your heart. In such a case, I do not hold you accountable to authority in the world, but to My Authority which dictates Holy Love. The challenge today is to hold steadfast to the Truth of Holy Love despite the opinions of the world.”

(January 22, 2020)

GOD THE FATHER: “You (Maureen) ask Me if people can be saved if they have no faith. Holy Love is the ladder to salvation. Through Holy Love, the soul’s faith is grounded and secured. Even souls who never heard of Me will be judged according to how they treat their neighbor.”

“I speak here so that My children will recognize that I am a loving Father – not a stern, unforgiving judge. During this age of evil convolution of the Truth, My Mercy and My Love are very present to all mankind. My omnipresence will always show itself in the resolution of events and problems. Unjust attacks upon those who live in the Truth do not escape My Judgment. Those who attack the Truth very often have the tables turned on them and are discovered to be who they really are – instruments of evil. Even in the worst attacks, I am always there taking account of who supports the Truth and who lives in lies. My Love and My Mercy are always ready to welcome the repentant heart.”

“Unjust judgments upon another’s character are still a sin no matter your position in the world. Do not let selfish ambition blind you. Live according to My Commandments no matter your status in the world, for no one escapes My Gaze.”

FROM LESSON 6, BALTIMORE CATHOLIC CATECHISM (Modified)

64. What is actual sin?
Actual sin is any willful thought, desire, word, action, or omission forbidden by the law of God.

65. How many kinds of actual sin are there?
There are two kinds of actual sin: mortal sin and venial sin.

66. What is mortal sin?
Mortal sin is a grievous offense against the law of God.

67. Why is this sin called mortal?
This sin is called mortal, or deadly, because it deprives the sinner of sanctifying grace, the supernatural life of the soul.

68. Besides depriving the sinner of sanctifying grace, what else does mortal sin do to the soul?
Besides depriving the sinner of sanctifying grace, mortal sin makes the soul an enemy of God, takes away the merit of all its good actions, deprives it of the right to everlasting happiness in heaven, and makes it deserving of everlasting punishment in hell.

69. What three things are necessary to make a sin mortal?
To make a sin mortal these three things are needed:
–the thought, desire, word, action, or omission must be seriously wrong or considered seriously wrong;
–the sinner, must be mindful of the serious wrong;
–the sinner must fully consent to it.

70. What is venial sin?
Venial sin is a less serious offense against the law of God, which does not deprive the soul of sanctifying grace, and which can be pardoned even without sacramental confession.

71. How can a sin be venial?
A sin can be venial in two ways:
–when the evil done is not seriously wrong;
–when the evil done is seriously wrong, but the sinner sincerely believes it is only slightly wrong, or does not give full consent to it.

72. How does venial sin harm us?
Venial sin harms us by making us less fervent in the service of God, by weakening our power to resist mortal sin, and by making us deserving of God’s punishments in this life or in purgatory.

73. How can we keep from committing sin?
We can keep from committing sin by praying and by receiving the sacraments; by remembering that God is always with us; by recalling that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit; by keeping occupied with work or play; by promptly resisting the sources of sin within us; by avoiding the near occasions of sin.

74. What are the chief sources of actual sin?
The chief sources of actual sin are: pride, covetousness (greed), lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth, and these are commonly called capital sins.

75. Why are these called capital sins?
They are called capital sins, not because they, in themselves, are the greatest sins, but because they are the chief reasons why men commit sin.

76. What are the near occasions of sin?
The near occasions of sin are all persons, places, or things that may easily lead us into sin.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It has been said that every mortal sin results in seven years penance in this world or the equivalent in purgatory (Paragraphs, 1-2):

(P1) “According to the holy Doctors, for every mortal sin a man is obliged by God to seven years of penance in this world, or the equivalent in purgatory; the reason being that every mortal sin is an offense against the seven Gifts of the Holy Ghost.” (Saint Vincent Ferrer)

(P2) “[I]f you assign, on the average, as Saint Frances of Rome says, seven years for the expiation of one mortal sin, remitted as to the guilt, who does not see that we arrive at an appalling duration [in Purgatory] and that the expiation may especially be prolonged for many years, and even for centuries? Years and centuries of torments! Oh! if we only thought of it, with what care should we not avoid the least faults! With what fervor should we not practice penance to make satisfaction in this world!” (Father Francois Xavier Schouppe)
